Responsibilities:
Applicants will teach 12 credit hours per semester at the undergraduate and graduate level in teaching methods of social science, curriculum development, and in their discipline of expertise.

Applicants will be required to develop and deliver courses in a variety of modes, including online courses that ensure quality and effective assessment at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will serve as undergraduate Social Studies Education coordinator for the Division of Social Sciences and History, the responsibilities of which include serving as a liaison to the College of Education and Human Sciences (COEHS) in respect to accreditation and the supervision of teaching internships and field experiences, serving on the Social Studies Education Program Committee, supporting accreditation efforts as needed, advising undergraduate students, developing an active research agenda, and engaging in general service to the division, college, university and community. Applicants should have expertise in social studies/social science learning, theory, practice, and pedagogy and a commitment to promoting diversity and equity.

Preference will be given to candidates with the knowledge and application of culturally responsive pedagogy. Opportunities exist for collaborative research and service with campus centers of excellence, including the Center for Community and Economic Development; the Madison Center for the Study of the Early American Republic; the Center for Interdisciplinary Geospatial Information Systems; and the Delta Center for Culture and Learning.


Qualifications:
Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Social Studies Education, curriculum and instruction, or any of the disciplines within Social Studies (Political Science, Geography, History, or Sociology). The candidate must have a minimum of 18 graduate-level hours in education.

Regardless of terminal degree, the ideal candidate would have at least 18 graduate hours in one of the above listed Social Studies disciplines.

Teaching experience in Social Studies Education is also important. The ideal candidate should have at least three years of successful teaching in public school secondary education as well as experience and credentials in teaching Social Studies Education courses at the undergraduate level. Candidates should also have knowledge and experience in program assessment for CAEP (NCATE)/NCSS accreditation.

Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Social Studies Education, curriculum and instruction, or any of the disciplines within Social Studies (Political Science, Geography, History, or Sociology). The candidate must have a minimum of 18 graduate-level hours in education.

Salary:
12 monthCommensurate with experience, qualifications, and university’s resources.
