The Department of Religion at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a one-year position as a full-time lecturer/instructor in Islamic Studies, beginning Fall 2021. Applications are welcome both from candidates who will have completed their PhD by August 2021 and from highly qualified, advanced ABD candidates.

 

The successful candidate will have a record of excellence in research and undergraduate teaching. Field of specialization is open, but preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated ability to teach courses in one or more of the following areas: the Qur’an, Islamic law, women in Muslim societies and/or world religions. A Ph.D. must be in hand by August 16, 2021 to be hired as a lecturer. Candidates who are ABD or hold a Master’s degree will be hired at the instructor level.  PhD and ABD applicants are preferred.  The expected teaching load is three courses per semester. Renewal of the position is contingent on availability of funding, positive performance reviews, and sufficient course enrollments.

SALARY AND APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

This is a full-time, 9-month appointment, non-tenure track position, renewable yearly subject to enrollments, funding, and positive performance evaluations. The expected start date is August 16, 2021. Salary is commensurate with experience.
