Women’s College Hospital acknowledges that the land on which it operates has, for thousands of years, been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island and Women’s College Hospital is grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land.

For more than 100 years Women’s College Hospital has been developing revolutionary advances in healthcare. We continue to build on this rich legacy established by our founders – courageous pioneers who refused to accept the status quo. Today our hospital culture is still shaped by leaders, healthcare providers and community members who break down barriers and push the boundaries of traditional healthcare in the pursuit of equity and excellence for the 21st century.

Women’s College Hospital is an academic hospital and a leader in health for women, health equity and health system solutions. As a fully ambulatory health service organization, ours is also a hospital designed to keep people out of hospital. We are developing ground-breaking innovations that aim to improve the management of chronic disease in the community, including through a focus on virtual care. We advocate for health equity because we know that a healthy society requires a level playing field where everyone has access to timely, high quality, efficient and compassionate care.

In the next great era for Women’s College Hospital, we are building on an ambitious vision - to revolutionize healthcare for a healthier and more equitable world. We are achieving this bold objective as a unified organization, in partnership with our diverse communities – patients, family members, thought leaders, philanthropists, innovators and disruptors in government, community, academia and the private sector.

Our academic mission is at the core of all we do. By advancing research, innovation, and investing in the education of the next generation of health professionals we believe we can address the quadruple aim of improved population health, improved patient and provider experience, at sustainable costs to the system. In addition, we are looking to aggressively advance a Learning Health System framework in the organization, bringing together researchers, innovators, clinicians, educators, community partners and advocates to work together in core areas of the hospital’s work.

To accelerate progress on this vision, Women’s College Hospital is seeking a Vice President, Academics.

Reporting to the CEO and as a member of the hospital’s Executive Team, you will be the key leader for advancing WCH’s goal of sustainable, world-class research, innovation and education. The creation of a new integrated academic structure has allowed for the launch of this exciting new role that breaks down silos in the academic enterprise.  You will be responsible for leveraging the collective strengths of the Women’s College Research Institute (WCRI), Women’s College Hospital Institute for Health Systems Solutions and Virtual Care (WIHV), and the hospital’s interprofessional teaching and education scholarship portfolio into a new integrated research, innovation and education portfolio that is under your leadership. Working closely with internal stakeholders, the University of Toronto and other key external stakeholders, the Vice-President, Academics will lead the implementation of the vision for the future of Academics at Women’s College Hospital. Ongoing areas of focus for scholarship in the organization will include women’s health, health equity, ambulatory care innovation (including for complex chronic disease), and virtual care. Leadership of this newly consolidated portfolio will involve bringing together a team of world-class scientists and researchers, innovators, clinician innovators and educators and building the necessary infrastructure to support their work.

The Vice President, Academics will be a key participant in the Executive Team of the hospital, bringing the perspective of scholarship and training to all discussions, and advancing the strategic priorities of the organization in the academic sphere.

As the ideal candidate, you are an inclusive and strategic leader. You possess the communication and interpersonal skills that will allow you to collaborate effectively with all internal and external stakeholders and partners. You are deeply committed to and demonstrate a track record of fostering a culture of equity, diversity and inclusion throughout your sphere of influence. Your experience leading within an academic healthcare environment will be evident in your collaborative and results-driven approach to mission-driven, multidisciplinary leadership. A postgraduate degree in a related field is strongly preferred.

Women’s College Hospital is a fully affiliated teaching hospital of the University of Toronto and is committed to fairness and equity in employment and our recruitment and selection practices. We encourage applications from Indigenous peoples, people with disabilities, members of sexual minority groups, members of racialized groups, women and any others who may contribute to the further diversification of our Hospital community. Accommodation will be provided in all parts of the hiring process as outlined in our Access for People with Disabilities policy.

To apply for this position, please submit your application and related materials to critch@boyden.com and state the title of the position in the subject line of your e-mail.

We thank all applicants for their interest, however only those under consideration for the role will be contacted.
