The Department of Classics at Bowdoin College seeks applicants for a visiting assistant professor position beginning July 1, 2021. A PhD by July 1, 2021 is preferred; ABD considered. This is a full-time position with an initial appointment for one year and the possibility of renewal for an additional two years after successful review and reappointment. Teaching responsibilities for this position will consist of two courses per semester; topics for these courses in 2021-2022 will likely include: Latin and/or Greek at the intermediate or advanced level, and courses in translation related to the successful candidate’s areas of expertise. We are particularly interested in offering courses that will broaden our curriculum in ways that invite engagement with other fields, expand the scope of our own, open our doors widely to curious students, and which make use of the outstanding collection of ancient material at the Bowdoin College Museum.
