The School of Nursing ( SON ) within the College Health and Human Services at the University of North Carolina Wilmington ( UNCW ) seeks an outstanding faculty member for a nine-month, full-time, clinical practice track faculty position in the Simulation Learning Center at the rank of Clinical Instructor, Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, or Clinical Professor. Appointment at the ranks of Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, or Clinical Professor is dependent on qualifications relative to university, college and school standards. Practice track faculty are initially appointed on a contract of up to 5 years that is renewable based on performance and are eligible to apply for promotion to higher Practice Track ranks. Appointments begin in August 2021; however, the start date is negotiable.
This clinical track faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in the Simulation Learning Center, undergraduate and graduate programs, and facilitate simulation educational activities and training for faculty in order to meet NC Board of Nursing requirements related to nursing faculty teaching simulation. Additionally this individual will work with the Simulation Learning Center coordinator to maintain a compliant simulation lab environment which includes development of policies, procedures. The Simulation Learning Center uses high, medium and low fidelity human patient simulators and standardized patient actors as a teaching and learning tool for nursing education. Through the use of simulation, we strive to create a realistic environment and a powerful learning experience that promotes cognitive, affective, psychomotor, and social learning opportunities for students while incorporating inter¬ professional collaborative experiences for students across the degree programs in the College. In addition, clinical practice track faculty have expectations related to advising students, research and scholarship, performing professional and community service and outreach, and contributing to ongoing program evaluation and improvement.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Applicants must have the following qualifications:

• Doctoral degree in nursing OR a doctorate in a related discipline with a baccalaureate or graduate degree in nursing at the rank of Clinical Assistant/Associate/Professor OR a master’s degree in nursing at the rank of Clinical Instructor
• Experience in nursing education, simulation, and other healthcare technology

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Preference will be given to candidates who have the following certification(s):

• Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator ( CHSE ) or other highly recognized simulation training certification/education

Required Certifications or Licensure

Current North Carolina RN license or ability to obtain a North Carolina RN license.

The School of Nursing has an outstanding legacy of serving the people of southeastern N.C. through education, scholarship, and service. The SON is located McNeill Hall, a state-of-the-art facility that includes offices, classrooms, a large lecture hall, computer laboratories, student success areas and learning commons, and the Simulation Learning Center. Through the use of simulation, we strive to create a realistic environment and a powerful learning experience that promotes cognitive, affective, physical and social development of the student as well as the incorporation of inter-professional collaborative experiences for students across the degree programs in the College.

o BS in Nursing (Prelicensure, RN- BSN online)
o MS in Nursing (Family Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Educator)
o Post-Master’s Certificate in Family Nurse Practice
o DNP
• Clinical Research
o BS in Clinical Research
o Post- Baccalaureate Certificate in Clinical Research Operations
o MS in Clinical Research and Product Development

Over 2,500 undergraduate and nearly 600 graduate students are enrolled in programs within the SON . Currently, the SON has 80 full-time faculty. The SON’s online bachelor’s degree in nursing program is ranked 7th among 2019’s “Best Online BSN Degrees” by US News and World Report.
