Southern Wesleyan University’s College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track position in Computer Science within its Science Division to begin August, 2021. The entry level rank of the candidate will be determined by terminal degree, qualifications, and experience. The university is actively seeking to increase the number of women and minorities within its faculty.
This is a Regular FT/ Exempt position. Applications received by
Feb. 1, 2021, will be given priority.
Primary Responsibilities
- Teach and develop classes in the Computer Information Systems program. Courses may include Introduction to Programming, Networking, Object-Oriented Programming, Database Management, Hardware and Software Support, and other areas according to the candidate’s expertise. SWU faculty normally carry a 12 credit hour/semester load.
- Program development, student learning outcomes assessment at the course level, student recruitment to the BS in Computer Information Systems program.
- Demonstrate servant-leadership by engaging in service activities within the university and the larger community.
- Serve on university committees and be actively engaged with the university community.
Qualifications/Requirements
Academic. A master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field is desirable; however, a combination of experience and certificates may qualify as appropriate credentials. Experience in and/or a desire to integrate Christian faith with the teaching and practice of the academic discipline is essential.
Preferences
Individuals who have experience serving with or leading in one or more of the following roles or areas may be preferred:
- SWU is particularly interested in candidates who could contribute to development in a specialty area such as, but not limited to, computer languages (Python, JavaScript, Ruby on Rails); cloud computing; cybersecurity, and XR (VR/AR/MR), or another area complementary to SWU’s present curriculum.
- Experience in academic program coordination or potential for future implementation and leadership of an academic program(s).
