The Department of Ethnic Studies at California State University,
Sacramento invites applications for a full-time tenure-track
Assistant Professor position beginning Fall 2021. Ph.D. in Ethnic
Studies, Pan African Studies, or related discipline. J.D. (Juris
Doctor), Ed.D. or ABD candidates will be considered. If ABD,
candidates will be required to complete the doctoral degree by
August 1, 2021. The Department seeks candidates to have the ability
to teach undergraduate and/or graduate Ethnic Studies courses
including: ETHN 11: Introduction to Ethnic Studies; ETHN 70:
Introduction to Pan African Studies; ETHN 170: Pan African Studies,
and ETHN 100: Ethnic America. The Ethnic Studies Department and the
Pan-African Studies Program seeks an individual who is
knowledgeable in the African Diaspora. The candidate hired will
must have a specialization in the use of critical, intersectional,
and/or interdisciplinary, approaches to Pan African Studies.
Preference will be given to candidates with specialty in one or
more of the following areas: Black culture; Black family; Black
women; criminalization of people of African descent; Pan African
Diaspora languages and/or religions; community activism/organizing;
media/popular culture; health; racial inequities in education;
racial violence; social movements; anti-Blackness; indigeneity;
and/or decolonization. Candidates must demonstrate an active
research interest in Pan African Studies/Ethnic Studies and the
ability to build collaborative partnerships with African American
and/or African Diaspora communities. Applicants must demonstrate
evidence of experience communicating and working effectively with a
diverse student population. Responsibilities include scholarly
research and/or creative activities; department, university and
community service; advising and mentoring students. A full list of
