Lake Superior State University invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position. This position will begin in August 2021.

The successful candidate will contribute their academic and professional expertise to our Theater programs.

Innovate and build the theatre curricula into a flagship program that is highly desired by students. Use collaboration and creativity to expand high quality, meaningful academic and performance opportunities for students. Provide course instruction to students, direct theatrical productions, and support Arts Center programming.

Responsibilities:

  1. Build up the theatre academic program through designing new courses and programs.
  2. Minimum of 12 contract hours of teaching responsibilities and/or production work per semester.
  3. Direct productions as part of the departmental season.
  4. Participate in the development and implementation of Arts Center events such as residencies.
  5. Provide a minimum of 5 hours devoted to office hours for the purpose of student advising and support.
  6. Participation in professional and scholarly activities, including but not limited to research and dissemination of knowledge through publication, community, or faculty presentations.
  7. Recruitment of students.
  8. Course and program assessment.
  9. University/community service.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Masters Degree in a theatre discipline

Desire and innovative/entrepreneurial energy to continually improve program quality and enrollment

Current record of professional acting experience

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Ability and willingness to collaborate well with students and other faculty

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

MFA in acting and/or directing or PhD in theatre history

Strong evidence of professional production experience in acting and/or directing

Evidence of commitment to undergraduate teaching, research, and service
