Overview
The College of Health and
Human Performance has six units: Human Development and Family
Science, Health Education and Promotion, Interior Design and
Merchandising, Kinesiology, Recreation and Leisure Studies, and a
School of Social Work. These academic units are responsible for
teaching the courses and advising students in each unit.
The Department of Interior Design and Merchandising offers two academic programs and a variety of experiences for students. Our academic programs include a BS in Interior Design and a BS in Fashion Merchandising and Consumer Studies. The BS in Merchandising has two distinct concentrations in Fashion and the other in Interiors. All of our programs are fully accredited.
Job Duties
The Department
of Interior Design and Merchandising at East Carolina University
has a position open for a Teaching Assistant Professor in Interior
Design. This is a fixed-term nine-month appointment, available
beginning August 2021. Teaching, and appropriate service to the
university, community and profession are expected.
Responsibilities are to teach undergraduate studio and lecture courses in kitchen and bath design, and at least five of the following design specialties: 3-D design, graphic presentation, drafting and presentation software, model construction, residential design, commercial design, design for wellness, hospitality design, interior construction and detailing, building systems, building codes, materials and specifications, human behavior, historic interiors, or professional practice.
Other duties may include:
Provide services to the university and community, participate in
the continued development of the undergraduate interior design
program, and maintain contacts and activity with professional
associations and industries.
Contingent upon availability of funds.
Minimum
Education/Experience
Terminal degree
in interior design or related discipline, such as, but not limited
to, interior architecture. Two years of demonstrated successful
experience in university teaching, scholarship, and service.
Preferred Experience, Skills,
Training/Education
Two years
demonstrated successful experience in the practice of interior
design.
The following certifications are preferred:
- National Council for Interior Design Qualification
- Evidence-Based Design Accreditation and Certification
- Architectural Registration Examination
- NKBA Certified Kitchen Designer
- NKBA Certified Kitchen Educator
- NKBA Certified Bath Designer
- NKBA Certified Bath Educator
