The Chronicle of Higher Education is seeking an innovative, entrepreneurial reporter to explain how technology is transforming the practices — and the mission — of higher education. This reporter will create new streams of Chronicle content that provide forward-thinking, analytical coverage of innovations in how colleges recruit and retain students, how they serve and assess faculty, and how they have adapted during an unprecedented year of remote work.

You’ll use deep connections with industry and campus leaders to give an insider’s view of innovation, reporting with a critical eye for a sophisticated audience. You’ll become a public-facing expert on campus technology, and you’ll produce journalism in a range of formats — articles, newsletters, longform reports, live and virtual events.

You’ll need to be a systems thinker who is skilled at cutting through jargon and demystifying tricky concepts. You’ll have a creative approach, a drive to collaborate, a confident and conversational voice, and a keen interest not just in publishing excellent journalism but in engaging an audience and nurturing digital-media products.

The right candidate has at least three years of reporting experience, with experience covering either technology or higher education. You’ll need to be self-motivated, proactive, and skilled at framing journalism for a national audience.

The Chronicle is independently owned and based in Washington, D.C. Our pay is commensurate with experience, and our benefits are among the best in the business.

If this sounds like the place you want to make your mark, send a cover letter, résumé, five clips, and three brief pitches for story ideas on the beat to resumes@chronicle.com.
