Research Assistant Professor (69576)



Department of Pharmacodynamics is looking for a highly motivated early career investigator with research experience in cancer biology and preclinical cancer therapeutic research at the rank of as a Research Assistant Professor.

This junior faculty position will:

  1. Conduct studies to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy and mode-of-action (MOA) of protein degraders and molecular glues and to find novel combinational therapies through hypothesis-driven testing and/or unbiased screening against different human cancers (e.g., Lung and pancreatic cancers).
  2. Use in vitro cell-based phenotypic assays (such as 2D and 3D cell viability assays, apoptosis, clonogenicity assays, migration/invasion assays and flow cytometry etc.), different mouse models of human cancers (such as cell line xenografts, patient-derived xenografts, syngeneic mouse models and genetically-engineered mouse models), cellular and molecular biology techniques (western blotting, real-time PCR, co-immunoprecipitation, gene knockdown, overexpression, immunohistochemistry etc.), biophysical assays (such as binary and tertiary drug-protein binding assays) and the state-of-the-art technologies (such as next generation sequencing, proteomics, CRISPR-Cas9 screening and single-cell RNA sequencing etc.).
  3. Analyze and interpret data, statistical analysis of data, bioinformatic analysis of public databases (such as TCGA, UCSC, NCBI-GEO, ICGC etc.) and managing research projects in the laboratory.
  4. Work in close collaboration with medicinal chemists and develop new successful collaborations with other faculty, mentor and teach graduate students and undergraduate students. Communicate research progress to colleagues, present research at conferences, and write grant proposals and articles for publication.


The ideal candidate will have an excellent record of publication, working experience with abovementioned in vitro cell-based assays, cellular/molecular biology techniques and different mouse models of human cancers, training in drug discovery and development, development of new ideas and technologies to find improved and novel therapeutic strategies against cancer and to further gain a better understanding of drug resistance mechanisms. The candidate should be scientifically-driven, self-motivated, a team-player and proficient in experimental design, data analysis and interpretation and should work in an organized way and have a keen interest in using a research faculty position as a resource to not only strengthen cancer research at the University of Florida, but also launch an independent research career. Strong written and verbal communication skills, analytical skills, and creativity are essential. Applicants interested in advancing teaching skills will have that opportunity. In addition to substantial research infrastructure and financial support, the salary for this position will be highly competitive according to the applicant’s qualifications and experience.

Minimum: PhD in biomedical research; some postdoctoral experience in cancer biology and therapeutic research

Preferred: PhD in biomedical research; 3 or more years of postdoctoral experience in cancer biology and therapeutic research; and a strong record of high impact publications
