The West Virginia University Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources, Mining and Industrial Extension Department is seeking applications for the position of Mining Extension Agent, Health and Safety Instructor. This position will be responsible for conducting Mining Extension training classes.

Specific duties and responsibilities:

  • Instruct mining related/required classes (ex: SCSR, Shelter, Mine Rescue, Fire Brigade, Annual Re-fresher).
  • Build relationships with clients to understand client needs.
  • Support the development of new services based on demonstrated client needs.
  • Participate in meetings, conferences and events related to the needs of the department.
  • Travel is required to perform this job (Limited).


Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, or a related field with five (5) years of underground experience; or an Associate’s degree in a related field and seven (7) years of underground mining experience.
  • A minimum of one (1) year experience working in a mining environment.
  • Mining and/or teaching certifications preferred.
  • Must be a highly motivated self-starter who works well in multiple settings.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to wear and instruct on the proper use of all existing SCSR’s used in underground coal mines.
  • Must possess strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to travel with a valid US driver’s license.
