Industrial Extension Engineer/Business & Marketing Specialist - Mining and Industrial Extension,



The West Virginia University Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources, Mining and Industrial Extension Department is seeking applications for the position of Industrial Extension Engineer/Business & Marketing Specialist. This position will be responsible for contacting manufacturers to promote the services of the Industrial Extension Service and the department's center, the West Virginia Manufacturing Extension Partnership (WVMEP). The Industrial Extension Service /WVMEP is the recipient of a cooperative agreement affiliated with the NIST-MEP national network of organizations which provide services to small and medium manufacturers. Specific duties and responsibilities:

  • Manage the organization’s marketing strategy including brand awareness, communication initiatives, and event planning.
  • Serve as project event manager for open enrollment training events including meeting logistics and on-site support as well as web support for virtual events.
  • Serve as project event manager for annual small manufacturer’s conference.
  • Develop and create marketing materials, such as sales and product collateral in collaboration with the Business Development Manager and the University’s Marketing and Communications team.
  • Maintain events and related metrics in the customer relationship management system and support reporting to the Federal Department of Commerce in collaboration with the Center Director.
  • Support the update and expansion of the customer relationship management system.
  • Recognize opportunities for sales and marketing that can convert into projects.
  • Support the development of new services based on demonstrated client needs.
  • Light travel is required to perform this job up to 10% but travel is limited to within the state of WV.


Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, marketing, sales, organizational development or related field.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in sales and marketing in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must be a highly motivated self-starter who works well in an independent setting.
  • Must possess strong leadership skills and have a proven track record of leadership development.
  • Superior time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel with a valid driver’s license.
