Senior Associate Controller



Job Summary

The Senior Associate Controller directs assigned fiscal and accounting functions of Finance & Accounting within the Office of the Controller.

Job Description

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

• Directs the functions of Finance & Accounting which include General Ledger, Auxiliaries, Treasury, Property, Construction, Payroll and Tax.

• Directs Finance & Accounting to ensure that established goals and objectives are communicated and attained.

• Directs assigned fiscal, accounting and reporting functions to ensure accounting practices are followed in accordance with university policy and generally accepted accounting practices (GAAP).

• Responsible for the fiscal year end closing process, and all financial and operational audits by working closely with the Florida Auditor General's Office.

• Interprets, develops, recommends, implements, communicates, and monitors accounting policies, procedures, and control systems.

• Participates in the strategic planning and assists with developing and implementing the departmental strategic plan. Establishes performance goals and measures to evaluate success.

• Represents Finance & Accounting on cross-divisional work groups, committees, and teams. Participates in meetings with internal and external professional organizations.

• Serves as essential personnel and provides assistance in the event of an emergency on campus.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Accounting or closely related field.

Eight years of professional full-time accounting experience.

Four years of management experience in an accounting unit.

Current Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.

Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Accounting or closely related field.

Six years management experience of an accounting unit in a higher education setting.

Experience in fiscal year end closing processes and preparation of Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) financial statements.

Experience with Workday Financials.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) as they related to higher education accounting activities.

Knowledge of or ability to learn Workday or similar enterprise financial management software application.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects.

Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relations with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and vendors.

Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various situations when numerous and diverse demands are involved.

Ability to think critically and creatively, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices into the organizational structure.

Ability to exercise a high degree of independent judgement in the establishment, interpretation, application, and enforcement of all rules, regulations, and policies.

Ability to effectively manage the work of others by providing information, guidance, and motivation.

Salary Range: $100,000 to $115,000 Annual
