Job Summary
Rhode Island School of Design is actively seeking licensed plumbers to join our Facilities team. We strongly encourage talented individuals with all levels of plumbing licensure (journeyman, master) to apply, with a strong preference for those who may also possess Sprinklerfitter licensure.
The individual in this role oversees and performs a wide variety of plumbing work covering all phases of plumbing equipment and systems maintenance, pipe fitting, renovations, and new construction.
Essential Functions
- Process and complete all work orders relative to the
inspection, installation, maintenance, and replacement of any of
the following as licensure permits: pipes, fitting, sprinkler
systems, and plumbing fixtures in order to maintain all water and,
drainage systems of the school.
- Interpret blueprints, work sketches, or verbal instructions and
pursue all job assignments as instructed by the plumbing and
electrical supervisor.
- Assist in preparing labor and material estimates.
- Review blueprints and/or contract proposals from outside
contractors and offer constructive criticism when requested.
- Oversee and inspect all maintenance work performed on campus by
any outside plumbing contractors, pipefitters, and sprinkler
fitters as licensure permits.
- Responsible for all tools, equipment, materials, and supplies
assigned to the plumbing department.
- Observe and practice all OSHA and related safety and security
rules and regulations.
- Drive RISD vehicle to transport materials and staff to the job
site(s), possibly outside normal business hours.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Experience
- High school, trade school, or equivalent combination of
education and experience.
- Minimum five years plumbing maintenance experience.
- Knowledge of OSHA and safety best practices.
- Basic computer and software (Microsoft Office) skills
required.
Required Licensure
- Minimum of Rhode Island Journeyman Plumbing License.
- Must maintain Rhode Island Certified Back Flow Prevention
Testers Certificate or must obtain within one year.
- Valid driver’s license.

Sprinklerfitter licensure

Work Schedule
40-hours per week; M-F, shift begins at 6:50 am and ends at 3:20 pm. Some night and weekend hours may be required. 24-hour call back. RISD Plumbers are considered essential personnel.
