Student Events and Special Projects Coordinator

Employment Status: Temporary, “non-exempt”, benefited position through August 31, 2021 (position renewable based upon available funding, availability of work, and satisfactory job performance).
Work Schedule: 40 hour per week, typically Monday - Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm, some evenings and weekends required. Incumbent must be able to participate in remote or on-campus work depending on the directives from the CSUSB campus.
First Review Deadline: This position will remain open until filled. Applications will be reviewed beginning February 9, 2021.
Typical Activities
Overview: Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, the Special Projects Coordinator will provide leadership and assistance in the development, implementation and assessment of various initiatives, activities, events and academic enrichment opportunities for middle and high school students. The Special Projects Coordinator will communicate and collaborate regularly with the Educational Talent Search Leadership Team, school sites and community partners to develop and support programs and initiatives which motivate and promote skills necessary for participants to complete a program of secondary education and enroll and succeed in postsecondary institutions.
Typical duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Program Planning and Coordination
- Assist with the proposal, planning, content development,
coordination of logistics, implementation, and assessment of:
- Programs and activities (including workshops, field trips,
campus tours, and large-scale special events) for participants,
parents/guardians, and other constituents
- ETS transitional events for freshmen and senior students.
- Events calendar in coordination with the Assistant Director,
making sure all events are appropriately scheduled and
executed.
- Plans for events and special projects to be sure that specific
tasks are accomplished according to the plan.
- Organization and accuracy of digital and tangible files and
records
Program Assessment
- Work with the Leadership to develop and conduct assessments and
analyze results for utilization with future event planning.
- Provide opportunities for students to assess their interests
and academic abilities based on field trips and student/parent
surveys
- Research and preparation of performance reports, evaluation,
and assessments for internal use, the US Department of Education,
CSUSB, and other project constituents
Program Outreach and Collaboration
- Encourage, develop, and maintain the school, district,
university, and community partnerships.
- Secure support of our program and objectives from local
businesses and national corporations
- Attend events related to ETS program objectives, as assigned,
both on-campus and off-campus.
- Utilize and oversee volunteers as appropriate.
- Coordinate all events and special projects with appropriate
team members to develop common goals, communication plans, and
staffing plans.
- Work with the Program Administrative Coordinator on event
budgets and to develop a system that provides student access to
technology, as needed.
- Recommend innovative programming activities that will foster
and encourage social/personal development and parent
engagement.
Program Marketing and Social Media
- Work in coordination with the Assistant Director to ensure
events are appropriately tracked on the overall campaign's
marketing/promotions calendar.
- Provide timely information and photos for use in program
communications, social media, and marketing.
- Work with the Social Media Coordinator to develop event
marketing campaigns.
Perform all other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum of two (2) years related
experience
- Experience planning, managing, and overseeing multiple projects
and activities.
- Strong project management expertise and experience
- Strong event planning expertise and experience.
- Experience in virtual student support, program platforms and
events.
- Experience with assessment and data analytics.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and
organizational and project management software.
- Applicants must possess the ability to handle confidential and
sensitive information, along with the ability to work cooperatively
with a diverse group of people, exercise sound judgment, determine
priorities, complete assigned projects in a timely manner, and work
well under tight deadlines.
- Applicants must possess the following critical strengths
including, but not limited to reliability, attention to detail, and
strong self-initiative.
- Must possess the ability to work with middle and high school
students and set a positive example.
- Extra consideration will be given to candidates that have
received training in delivering college readiness activities, such
as through the TRIO Training (UNLV) sponsored by the U.S.
Department of Education.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual/Spanish is preferred.
