The Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology is seeking aClinic Supervisor. Working in the Green Spring Outpatient Clinic, the Clinic Supervisor’s is responsible for supervising, training, and motivating team members. Trains and coaches the clinic staff; monitors activity for quality and productivity; analyzes, develops and produces feedback and management reports; conducts quality audits; coordinates the development of and reviews and implements departmental protocols.

This position will be responsible for serving in the Supervisory role as a group/team mentor and resource liaison. The Supervisor must be highly proficient with insurance verification/benefits eligibility and when necessary, obtain and complete documentation for referral/authorizations, and assess patient financial liability.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the day to day clinical operations of an outpatient clinic for Cardiology. Works with administration, managers and health care providers to establish and review current practices. Supervises Patient Service Coordinators, Medical Assistants, and other clinic staff which includes hiring, evaluations, time management, and coordination of training, discipline, and terminations.
  • On a continuous basis, exercises judgment and assumes responsibility for decisions, consequences and results that have an impact on patients and the quality of service delivered by the department. Organizes and prioritizes work to meet changing needs.
  • Assist Cardiology leadership in staffing the department areas with adequate coverage, participate in meetings and projects and makes decisions based on previous follow up discussions. The Supervisor will take the initiative on identifying problems and implementing solutions.
  • Resolves scheduling conflicts, monitors room utilization, and maintains clinic patient flow. Conducts patient interviews regarding clinic fees, billing problems, and insurance information. Researches issues relating to billing or charge capture, discusses issues with appropriate staff and takes necessary measures to resolve issues.
  • Intervenes, as necessary, on issues relating to patient complaints, health care providers' concerns, and operational issues, and takes measures to correct situation or ensures appropriate personnel are involved.
  • Prepares and maintains clinic statistics and reports using database or spreadsheet software. Monitor time of service collections.
  • Responsible for ordering office supplies, medical equipment, furniture, etc. via SAP. Works closely with vendors.

Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma/GED.Four years related experience required. Requires an understanding of changing reimbursement policies and third party reimbursement. Previous lead or supervisory experience required.Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum experience required for the respective job.

Physical Requirements:

Sitting, standing and walking for extended period. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s). Ability to move standard equipment through a hospital or clinical environment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
