General Summary/Purpose:

Working under the general direction of the Principal Investigator, provides overall coordination of two funded research studies, implement the study protocols, and supervise staff. Participates in developing research designs, data collection methods, and strategies for data management. Assists with monitoring reports for the funding agencies. Leads community-based recruitment of human subjects and manages data collection processes.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

    Develop and maintain relationships with community research partners Develop innovative community-based strategies to meet targets for recruitment and retention Identify and recruit eligible participants for the research studies, ensuring the target number of participants are enrolled Explain study objectives, risks, and benefits with potential participants to recruit participants Screen participants, administer surveys, and conduct in-depth interviews. Assist with hiring and training of other research team members; develop training materials; coordinate training delivery; assure training and compliance of staff over life of project Supervise graduate students who support the project as needed Supervises field operations including managing administrative tasks relating to recruitment and scheduling of participant interviews, investigator meetings, and budget review, including managing payments and reimbursements of study participants. Assist in refining research designs, data collection methods and strategies for data management Organize text data for summary to study colleagues and partners, including assisting in the conduct of basic and complex qualitative analyses. As co-author, assist the PI in manuscript writing and the preparation of abstracts, tables and/or figures to disseminate study findings. Conduct literature searches or other related document reviews relating to the PI’s program of research. Participates in developing interim reports for principal investigator, funding agency, and institutional review board to ensure that the project is moving toward timely completion Consult with the Principal Investigator on appropriate management of participant problems and concerns Monitor study progress and develop reports on study progress Report irregularities or adverse events to appropriate study personnel. Makes referrals to support resources per study protocol

Minimum Qualifications (mandatory):

    Bachelor’s degree in related discipline Some related experience. Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula***.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s in Nursing, Social Work, Psychology or Public Health is preferred.
  • Two years of experience in community-based research or clinical setting.
  • Experience, knowledge, or interest in working with at-risk individuals and/or survivors of violence and trauma is desired

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience or training in qualitative research methods.
  • Position requires strong attention to detail and protocol adherence, while maintaining flexibility to respond to multiple priorities.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.
  • Able to work autonomously and meet required deadlines, including having independent decision-making and trouble-shooting abilities
***JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
