Biostatistician

General Summary/Purpose

Dr Chirag Parikh’s lab in the Division of Nephrology at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine is a vibrant environment dedicated to the application of laboratory and preclinical-based discoveries to clinical studies in kidney disease and related disorders (http://tribe.jhmi.edu). The group is composed of physicians, statisticians, research fellows, nurses, and study coordinators.

This research lab is looking for an experienced biostatistician with a strong interest in academic scholarship and publication as well as tremendous skill in managing, programming and analyzing data from multiple sources. The successful candidate will work with investigators, database programmers, research coordinators and post-graduate fellows to complete various translational and clinical research projects using a variety of statistical techniques. In addition, the successful candidate will get an opportunity to collaborate with other experienced statisticians and supervise junior analysts and students.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

1. Performs a variety of duties involving the application of statistical skills to the design of research studies. Works as a member of a research team/study team to provide appropriate statistical input in the design, execution and analysis of studies.
2. Participates in the development of operations and procedures for the verification and management of statistical data.
3. Evaluates the statistical methods and procedures used to obtain data to ensure validity, applicability, efficiency, and accuracy.
4. Analyzes and interprets statistical data to identify significant differences in relationships among sources of information.
5. Processes large amounts of data for statistical modeling and graphic analysis.
6. Investigates, evaluates and prepares reports on applicability, efficiency, and accuracy of statistical methods used in obtaining and evaluation data.
7. Participates in the preparation of written and oral presentations that summarize the analysis of data, interprets the finding and provides conclusions and recommendations.
8. May perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree or higher level degree in Statistics, Biostatistics or related field is required, and a minimum of one year of related experience.

Demonstrated ability on significant graduate project or additional doctoral education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

* JHU Equivalency Formula:30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. *

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer a minimum of two (2) years of experience conducting data analysis.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. In depth programming experience in SAS or R
  2. Must be able to understand and modify pre-existing SAS code.
  3. Experience with various data types (omics, administrative/claims databases, electronic medical record data) (desired, though not required)
  4. Strong data analysis skills
  5. Ability to become well versed with medical terminology (kidney and heart diseases)
  6. Well-developed analytical, organizational, and oral and written communication skills
  7. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects to ensure on-time delivery as well as meticulous quality

Supervisory responsibility:Opportunity to supervise 1-2 junior analysts and students.

Flexibility for remote work within the US.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
