Under general supervision is responsible for the development and implementation of proactive diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and strategies in support of the University’s mission. Serves as advocate and champion the importance and value of a diverse and inclusive university community. Manages and develops programming and engagement strategies for the Pride Center, the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and the Tiger Market. Leads collaborative efforts with the faculty, staff, administration, and community organizations to engage and retain students from minoritized populations.

Essential Duties Summary

• Develops, implement, and assess campus-wide programming initiatives to include cultural awareness, cross cultural learning, celebrations, and heritage months.
• Serves as a resource for minoritized students concerning academic, personal and social needs.
• Responds to student crisis related to diversity, equity, inclusion, bias, and other critical issues concerning, minoritized student populations. Coordinate with the AVP for Student Services and VP for Student Services and Enrollment Management as appropriate.
• Assists in the creation, advisement, and coordination of the Diversity Peer Ambassador program. Conduct social justice and student leadership and development workshops such as LGBTQ Initiatives and all trainings on supporting students from minoritized student populations throughout campus as needed.
• Assists in the development of a peer mentoring program that assists first-year and transfer students from minoritized populations transitioning into Texas Southern University.
• Supervises graduate assistant(s), work-study students, and volunteers.
• Assists in preparing reports, proposals, and other written documents to assist in the evaluation and assessment of programs.
• Maintains a professional presence, stay current in the field, and participate in professional development opportunities.
• Delivers educational programming, support services, and advocacy for LGBTQIA+ students and other minoritized population.
• Assists in hiring, training, and supervising graduate assistants, student employees, interns, and community volunteers.
• Develops marketing materials for programs, services, and advocacy.
• Maintains the social media presence for the Pride Center, the Office of Diversity, and Equity, and the Tiger Market.
• Develops and maintains relationships with faculty, staff, and students.
• Explores and identifies external funding sources.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Hiring Range $41,976.00 - $52,470.00 Education

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. Master’s degree and two (2) years of relevant experience preferred.

Work Experience

Three (3) years of relevant experience working with the LQBTQIA+ community and other populations from underrepresented groups.

Experience working with community organizations or other groups that cater to the needs of the LGBTTQIA+ community and other minoritized populations preferred.

Experience making data-driven decisions preferred.

Working/Environmental Conditions

Routine office environment.
Sitting or standing in one location much of the time.
Some stooping, lifting or carrying objects light weight may be required.
Use of video display terminal.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include travel, evenings and weekends.
