Position Summary:

A senior level administrator who will provide overall management and direction across Extension's operations, policy development, and stakeholder engagement including both elected and non-elected county, state, and federal partners. This role will collaborate with and report to the Dean of UW-Madison's Division of Extension. The Associate Dean will supervise the Directors of Human Resources, Educational Technology Services, Communications and Stakeholder Engagement, and two Assistant Deans who coordinate and oversee statewide operations. Successful applicants will need to have significant work experience as an organizational leader supporting the leadership of Extension in implementing a positive work environment and organizational policies that are aligned with the mission of the Division of Extension and UW-Madison.

- Organizational Strategy and Decision Making - Serve as a core member of the Deans Leadership Team by contributing and developing policies and strategic directions. This includes being the main channel of communication between the Dean of Extension and the operational units and statewide activities.
- Partnership Management - Strengthen and manage external partnerships and relationships with county and state officials. Strengthen the internal partnership with UW-Madison specifically with the Office of Legal Affairs, the Office of Risk Management, the Office of Youth Protection and Compliance and University Relations. Collaborate with Extension's two assistant deans, two associate deans, and 21 area directors to support local priorities and partnerships.
- National and International Issues Identification - Communicate and engage with Extension colleagues at regional and national Land Grant Institutions to identify and share emerging issues and innovative approaches to international engagement, volunteer management, Cooperative Extension System policies, and engagement with the National Institute of Food and Agriculture.
- Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion - Collaborate with Extension's Office of Access, Inclusion and Compliance to support and advance a diverse and inclusive work environment and support broad programming opportunities.
- Budget Management - Oversee and allocate budgets to operational units and Area Directors working closely with Extension's Office of Financial Services.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Master's Degree required

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Required Qualifications
1. Significant experience with at least 6-years of overseeing and coordinating operational aspects of a large organization.
2. Demonstrated record as a proven leader in providing at least 6 years of oversight to and mentoring of supervisors.
3. Experience developing, drafting and implementing organizational policies.
4. Successful record of building effective working relationships with agency and community leadership, and elected officials at the local, county, state or federal level.
5. Experience and understanding of how to engage and support fundraising and philanthropic approaches to diversify funding.
6. Experience in helping to manage a diverse and physically distributed workforce.

Preferred Qualifications
1. 10-years of successful supervisory experience.
2. Experience working within a Land Grant University or large public institution.
3. Experience and understanding of the Extension mission.
4. Demonstrated success and understanding of international engagement.
5. Accomplished in helping to attract/support a diverse workforce as well as amplifying growth in diversity among program participants and stakeholders.
6. Experience in reimagining standard workplace expectations related to virtual meetings and telecommuting.
