Teaching Assistant Professor in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Athletic Coaching Education

The College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences (CPASS) at West Virginia University is seeking applicants for a Teaching Assistant Professor in Athletic Coaching Education for the Morgantown campus to begin August 2021. Our College serves approximately 1,500 students across 16-degree programs at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. Our mission focuses on conducting and disseminating high-quality research, preparing students to be leaders and innovators in their fields, and enhancing the quality of life for the residents of our state through outreach efforts. We are looking for a highly qualified individual who can contribute to this mission by working with other faculty, learners, and community partners in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Duties for the ideal candidate are to effectively teach online courses in the online Sport Coaching major and to teach in-person courses in the on-campus B.S. Coaching and Performance Science major. Courses could include: Principles and Problems in Coaching, The Profession of Sport Coaching, Coaching Internship/Practicums, Pedagogy and Context, Applied Sport Science, and Leadership Development. Candidate will be expected to assist with the administration of the online program including: Lead course instructor team meetings at the beginning and end of semester; Assist with training adjunct instructors including answering questions or triaging issues in online courses; Assist with course curriculum and course development for online programming; Assist with online course evaluation and revision based on instructor and student feedback; and Develop courses including create syllabus, complete faculty senate course approval process, and develop course shell.

This position is a 9-month non-tenure track teaching position, with no research component. The position will begin on August 13, 2021. Summer teaching opportunities are available.

Qualifications :

  • An earned doctoral degree in Kinesiology preferably with a specialization in Athletic Coaching Education or a closely related area at the time of appointment OR a master’s degree in Kinesiology with a specialization in Athletic Coaching Education or a closely related area and industry experience (at least three years) in the coach development.
  • Evidence of innovative and effective teaching with adult learners via online and in-person formats.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership.
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills.
