Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities

VCU School of Social Work is searching for a collaborative and experienced professional to join our team as the Student Recruitment Specialist! The primary purpose of this position is to support prospective undergraduate ( BSW ) and graduate ( MSW ) social work students from lead to enrollment. The Student Recruitment Specialist will work with the Administrator of Student Recruitment and support the recruitment and admissions office in recruitment-related initiatives and strategic goals of the university, school, program, and Office of Student Success. Core responsibilities include:

Recruitment Initiatives – Work with Administrator of Student Recruitment to implement recruitment logistics and strategic initiatives; manage and contact prospective student portfolio about the school of social work; manage prospective student communications and email account; develop network of contacts for recruitment purposes, and track prospective student data and pipeline

Recruitment Events – Execute and present at recruitment events such as Discovery Days, Welcome Days, open houses, Preview Days, campus and virtual informational sessions; participates in weekend events as necessary; work in all weather elements

Prospective Student Advising & Engagement – advises prospective students on admissions requirements, transfer guidelines, financial aid, and scholarship information; guides students on next steps;

Liaison & Leadership – provide coverage and act as backup in the areas related to recruitment in the absence of the Administrator of Student Recruitment; serve on VCU and community committees as needed

• Bachelor’s degree
• Excellent computer skills and experience with all Google products
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to organize and prioritize work
• Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently
• Experience with technology

• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Strong critical thinking skills
• Excellent customer service
• Comfortable interacting with internal and external clientele in a variety of situations
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or the commitment to do so at VCU .

Preferred Hiring Standards

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, or related field
• Previous experience in higher education
• Knowledge of social work education
• Demonstrated event planning experience
• Demonstrated presentation experience
