Faculty - Artist-in-Residence Ballroom Dance

Summary:
Utah Valley University's Department of Dance invites applicant submissions for an Artist in Residence in the Ballroom Dance Program beginning Fall 2021. The mission of the Department of Dance is to foster academic and artistic excellence through an intensive technical and reflective study of dance. Anchored in a common core curriculum, with several areas of emphasis, our program provides a rich and stimulating environment where students cultivate their technical, aesthetic, creative and scholarly potential. We value experience with a variety of teaching methods and/or curricular perspectives that engage students and which promote dance as an artistic and cultural expression with the power to enrich and transform the individual, community, and society.
Under the direction of the Department Chair and the Ballroom Dance Program Coordinator, a successful candidate will educate in a variety of learning environments and activities that address cultural issues and provide opportunities for students to develop their fullest potential and achieve their learning objectives in the Department of Dance core curriculum and Ballroom Dance Program. The successful candidate will also choreograph for, direct, and mentor students in Ballroom Dance performing groups and competitive formation teams. A successful candidate will be able to teach across the curriculum, including technique, either theory or online courses.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a Bachelor’s degree in Dance or a related field and 3 years experience, OR any combination of education and experience totaling 7 years.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience teaching all levels of Ballroom Dance choreography, theory, and technique, including International Style and American Style, and the ability to teach at least one of the following Orientation for Dance, Dance as an Art Form, Jazz, or Dance Conditioning.
Experience with student participation, supervision, and coordination of competitive Ballroom Dance (DanceSport) events.
Experience in dance production and performances.
Academic experience and interests in culturally diverse groups.
Plan, prepare, and follow an approved course of study with measurable objectives for each course taught. Prepare instructional materials. Instruct and supervise groups and individuals in classroom/labs/rehearsals. Advise and mentor students. Direct student performing groups and organize student travel opportunities. Maintain office hours. Assist in recruitment, advisement, and placement. Evaluate instruction and learning by means of written, oral, practical and performance tests.
The ability to create original Ballroom choreography for competitions and concert performances. The ability to teach and coach International Style and American Style Ballroom Dance technique and choreography. Experience planning and coordinating concerts, competitions, and community outreach. Experience planning and working within a production budget. The ability to keep abreast of new development trends and techniques through participation in workshop seminars, actual work experience, and exchange programs with business and industry to maintain skills, state of the art, and knowledge.

Evidence of excellence and expertise in the following: Ballroom Dance Technique, Performing Company/Formation Team Direction
Physical Requirements:
Work is normally performed in a typical classroom/office work environment.
