Job Summary
The Director of Electronics and Research Technology manages electronics and repair needs of student and research lab equipment on the three campuses in the College of Science and Mathematics (COSM), and the IT needs for specialized scientific hardware and software for research or other purposes not supported by Information Technology Services.

Responsibilities
  • Perform related duties as assigned to support the mission of the University
  • Specify, install, and maintain electronic and scientific equipment, including but not limited to water purification systems, boats, greenhouses, ovens, office equipment, refrigerators, freezers, vehicles, telescopes, plumbing, autoclaves, icemakers.
  • Direct and train others on policies and recommended equipment/instrumentation operation
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, external contractors and Facilities Services on the installation/maintenance/renovation of scientific labs, equipment and instrumentation
  • Operate and maintain COSM Electronics and Research Technology Program (including two shops and an office), including associated paperwork (purchasing, budget, etc) and supervision of a student assistant
  • Perform associated duties, including approving research/technology equipment purchased in COSM

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree

Required Experience
  • Five (5) or more years of related work experience in maintenance, construction, electronics, engineering, engineering technology or related field
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with multiple units or stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Refrigerant gas certification
  • Other certifications as applicable

Proposed Salary
$56,300 - $66,000

  • Workweek may often extend beyond the 40 hours - 8 am-5 pm time (emergencies, weekends); Employee will have state issued cell phone for weekends/emergencies
  • Travel required (required to drive University vehicles), especially between the three (3) Georgia Southern Campuses and field research sites including but not limited to Skidaway Island, St. Catherine's Island, Ossabaw Island and locations along the Ogeechee River.
