  Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno Department of Music seeks a dynamic individual to join their voice faculty in Fall 2021 as a tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Voice. The primary teaching responsibility for this position will be applied voice instruction to undergraduate and graduate voice students in classical styles with a demonstrated commitment to culturally responsive and inclusive teaching as well as a demonstrated commitment to developing beginning voices. While the position is centered in the classical vocal style, the Voice Area offers instruction in Musical Theater and CCM styles as well. Other teaching responsibilities may be assigned based on the qualifications of the candidate and the needs of the department. Examples include Class Voice, Vocal Literature, Vocal Pedagogy, and Opera Workshop. As this is a tenure-track position, the successful candidate will also demonstrate capacity to establish and maintain a national/international profile as a performer/scholar. All voice types will be considered for this position.

Required Qualifications: 

  • A Master’s degree in Voice or equivalent/related degree
  • Evidence of a national performance and/or research profile
  • Minimum 2 years teaching experience working with developing and advanced voices in a studio setting (Applied Lessons)
  • Evidence of attention to diversity, equity and inclusion in teaching and/or service

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • DMA or equivalent terminal degree
  • Substantial professional experience, including teaching at the collegiate level
  • Demonstrated interest in building vocal technique in beginning singers
  • Demonstrated ability to teach Class Voice, Opera WorkshopVocal Literature, and/or Vocal Pedagogy

 Compensation Rank: Assistant Professor/Rank II, Nine-month contract.  Salary commensurate with education and experience.

 Start Date: July 1, 2021

Department and School Information 

The Department of Music has 35 full-time faculty, and approximately 200 music majors and 70 minors. The department is an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music and offers Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Music (in Education and Performance), Master of Arts, Master of Music degrees.
