Job Functions
Reporting to Vice President (Research and Innovation), the
appointee will lead the Graduate School (GS) to provide a full
range of services and opportunities on matters pertinent to
research postgraduate (RPg) education. The appointee will be
required to:
(a) formulate and implement university-wide
policies and strategies to enhance the quality and impact of RPg
education and the experience of RPg students;
(b) oversee the administrative support to funding
schemes related to RPg studies, e.g., Research Student Attachment
Programme, International Postgraduate Scholarships for PhD Studies,
Hong Kong PhD Fellowship, etc.;
(c) expand and enhance promotional initiatives
and strategies for the recruitment of high quality RPg students
both locally and overseas;
(d) proactively facilitate interdisciplinary
research collaborations among RPg students and with other
researchers;
(e) support the all-round development of RPg
students and their career development potential as
scholars/researchers through various activities;
(f) facilitate the development of alumni
activities for RPg graduates; and
(g) perform any other duties as assigned by Vice
President (Research and Innovation) or his/her delegate(s) or the
Central Management of the University.
The successful candidate will be appointed Chair Professor normally
on regular terms and hold a concurrent deanship appointment which
is usually for a renewable three-year term. The appointee is
expected to resume his/her substantive position at the end of the
deanship appointment.
Qualifications
Applicants should be a visionary and inspiring leader with a strong
drive for excellent performance and have:
(a) outstanding academic qualifications at Chair
Professor level with evidence of eminent scholarship;
(b) a distinguished reputation as a world-leading
researcher, and a strong track record of performance in teaching,
professional services and successful leadership and management at a
senior level;
(c) the ability to promote collaboration across
faculties and departments so as to build a forward-looking team in
support of the future development of RPg education;
(d) effective communication, interpersonal and
resources management skills and excellent adaptability to changes
and challenges;
(e) substantial knowledge of the higher education
environment in the local, regional and/or global contexts;
and
(f) an excellent command of both written and
spoken English and preferably Chinese, with fluency in Putonghua
being an advantage.
