Police Dispatcher Lead (Police Dispatcher II) / University Police Department

Overview
Employment Status: Full-time, non-exempt, probationary position.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 5:00 pm. (May required to work nights and weekends pending operational needs).
Anticipated Salary Range: $3,513.00 - $5,100.00 monthly.
*Salary commensurate with the background and experience of the individual selected.

The CSUSB Police Department was established on Jan. 23, 1974, and is a full service, California POST-certified law enforcement agency that employs 19 sworn police officers and active support staff for the service and protection of the campus community on a 24/7/365 basis. The department is responsible for the 471-acre northern San Bernardino campus and also for the surrounding area including the campus and outlying residential, canyon, and foothills. The peace officers of this department have a statewide police authority and are vested with law enforcement powers and responsibilities, identical to the municipal police or sheriff's departments in our community.

Typical Activities
Job Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Associate Director of Police Services and Police Chief, the Police Dispatcher Lead, will plan, direct and coordinate UPD Dispatch activities and operations in support of university-wide emergency and non-emergency police services. Required to work independently, react quickly, and demonstrate good judgment and discretion in stressful situations. Oversees communications equipment related to dispatch and project management of new systems when applicable from implementation to maintenance. Ensures staff and shift coverage 24/7/365 day-to-day operation and technical support related to police dispatching service calls. Handles day-to-day procedural questions and personnel issues that arise. Instructs and trains new hires. Serves as liaison to the campus community, general public, outside agencies, and organizations. Participates in the development and implementation of the CSUSB Police Department's objectives, operations, policies, and procedures.
Please note: Selected candidates must be able to successfully pass a background investigation, written exam, pre-employment medical examination, psychological examination, which requires fingerprinting and background (including criminal record) check.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Three (3) years of verifiable experience using switchboard and two-way radio communication system in law enforcement or comparable agency within the last ten years.
- Completion of P.O.S.T. Communication Training Officer Course is desired.
- Completion of P.O.S.T. Records Clerk Course is desired.
- Successful experience as a lead/senior police dispatcher, dispatch trainer, dispatch supervisor, or equivalent position in a police/fire/public safety communications center.
- Successful experience as a lead/senior police records clerk, records trainer, records supervisor, or equivalent position in a police/fire/public safety agency.
- Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment utilizing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.
Supplemental Information
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.
