Overview

California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is located in San Bernardino in the Inland Empire, 60 miles east of Los Angeles and operates a satellite campus in Palm Desert located in Coachella Valley. CSUSB serves approximately 20,000 students, of which 81% are first-generation college students and graduates about 5,000 students annually. As a designated Hispanic Serving Institution, CSUSB reflects the dynamic diversity of the region and has one of the most diverse student populations of any university in the Inland Empire, and the second highest Hispanic enrollment of all public universities in California. CSUSB employs 467 full-time faculty and offers 48 undergraduate, 35 graduate, and one doctoral degree programs and 14 academic programs with national accreditation.

JOB SUMMARY

The Department of Management at California State University, San Bernardino invites applications from a diverse group of qualified applicants for an open rank tenure track position in Business Communication beginning August 2021. Successful candidates will join a growing, dynamic department and be committed to teaching, scholarship and student success. The Management department has over 40 faculty and staff serving more than 800 students in two (2) undergraduate programs (Management and Human Resource Management), at two campuses (San Bernardino and Palm Desert) and an MBA concentration. The Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration (JHBC), which is accredited by AACSB and NASPAA, consists of six academic departments: Accounting and Finance, Entrepreneurship, Information and Decision Science, Management, Marketing, and Public Administration.

Expectations for the position include teaching Business Communication and potentially related courses (e.g. Organizational Behavior, Strategy, Human Resources) at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and significant participation in program development and leadership. Preferred candidates will be expected to meet the traditional requirements of excellence in teaching, active scholarly and professional work, and service to the University and community. We are seeking candidates who have a passion for teaching Business Communication and a willingness to mentor and coach students. The department has also launched “The Speaking Center at JHBC” and houses the “JHBC Professional Writing Office” to provide additional support and leadership to students on oral and written communication skills. Candidates must also have a strong interest and skills that enable them to participate in building curriculum, developing innovative academic and experiential programs, taking on leadership roles within the department and developing and maintaining relationships with the local business community. It is also expected that the person filling this position will play an active role in maintaining student engagement, advisement of students in the Management concentration, and serving on department, college and university-wide committees. Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Minimum Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
An earned doctorate (by the time of the appointment) from an accredited institution in the area of Communication Studies, Organizational Communication, Business Communication or a closely related field; evidence of teaching potential with a diverse student body at the undergraduate and graduate levels; scholarly accomplishments in alignment with AACSB scholarly academic standing; and professional (industry) experience, appropriate to rank.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Priority will be given to those candidates who have (a) substantive teaching experience and demonstrated teaching excellence in Business Communication and who can effectively teach in another management discipline (ideally Strategy, Organizational Behavior, or Human Resources); (b) multiple peer-reviewed journal articles and a promising stream of teaching, practitioner, or discipline based research; (c) experience mentoring and coaching a diverse student population; (d) significant prior professional, consulting or business experience in the field; and (e) experience and interest in building academic and/or Center-based programs in the area of Business Communication.
