The Case Investigator, will act as primary point person to call people with a positive diagnostic test for COVID-19 (cases), provide support and information about the disease, and gather information including contacts. Fluency in second or multiple languages a plus, although translation services will be available. What you need to know - This is a part-time; temporary position working remotely; (Texas resident preferred and familiarity with Texas' geography) pay rate is $18.00/hr.
Equipment used in the performance of essential duties:
Access to the following Technology:
- Ability to support version of one of the following:
- Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome. Mozilla Firefox or Apple Safari, as designated by the browser vendor.
- Note: Microsoft Internet Explorer should not be used
Access to PC hardware minimum requirements:
- Processor: 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo or equivalent
- RAM: 2 GB Monitor Display: 1024 x 768, 16 colors
- Sound Card: Full Duplex sound system
- USB 2.0 port for USB Headset
Access to minimum PC software requirements:
- One of the following 32-bit or 64-bit operating systems: Microsoft Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Microsoft Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 or 3
- Access to network connection with: Minimum 5MB download broadband internet speed
- Minimum 1MB upload broadband internet speed
COVID-19 information: Texas A&M University monitors and updates our recruiting, hiring and onboarding processes to align with local, state and federally mandated health guidelines to keep employees, prospective employees, and visitors as safe as possible. Each department has established both remote and in-person procedures for conducting these processes, which include sanitizing common spaces, a mask policy, and maintaining safe physical distancing to the extent possible. Departments will provide the procedures to be followed at each step of the recruiting process.
Required Education and Experience:
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education
and experience
- Experience working in a health, human service, or
community-based organization or institutional setting
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Ability to speak, read, and write English fluently
- Ability to work remotely. Ability to exhibit a professional,

tracking systems

- Texas resident preferred and familiarity with Texas'
geography
Other Requirements or Other Factors:
- Must completed “Making Contact: A Training for COVID-19 Contact
Tracers” offered by the Association of State and Territorial Health
Officials, Texas Health and Human Services HIPAA training or
approved equivalent, Texas Health and Human Services Cybersecurity
training or approved equivalent, Texas Health Trace data system
training, and Texas Health and Human Services Acceptable Use
Agreement as a part of onboarding.
- Must meet minimum requirements for Personal Computer hardware
and software and broadband internet (see details above in section
titled: What you need to know)
- Required to follow all scripts, policies and procedures
provided by DSHS, and comply with DSHS training regarding
confidential information related to personal information
- The contact tracing call center will operate 7 days a week
between the hours of 8am and 8pm Central Standard Time
- Evening and/or weekend work may be required
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university
with major coursework in epidemiology, microbiology, infectious
diseases, bio-statistics, or a related field
- Experience in the field of epidemiology, communicable disease
control, or a related field
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the principles and methods of
epidemiology
- Fluency in second or multiple languages a plus
- Ownership of or ability to acquire a headset is
preferred
Responsibilities:
- Case Investigating - Act as primary point person to call people with a positive diagnostic test for COVID-19 (cases). Provide support and information about the disease, and gather information including contacts. Communicate with cases in a professional and empathetic manner. Triage and coordinate next steps for support for cases, including referral to social services. Provide contacts with approved information about Texas' quarantine/isolation procedures, if appropriate, refer them to testing according to protocol and/or to a COVID-19 social resource. Maintain daily contact with supervisor. Escalate issues to supervisor.
- Contact Tracing - Perform contact tracing duties for team as necessary based on contact tracer workloads. Perform other duties as assigned.
