Birmingham-Southern College invites applications for a two-year faculty appointment in Musical Theatre at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Theatre. The position will begin August 2021. The successful candidate will then be eligible to apply for a tenure-track position that will begin in August 2023.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Teach courses in Acting, Musical Theatre, Directing. Ability to choreograph and teach Theatre Dance highly desirable
  • Direct Main Season theatre productions
  • Mentor and advise students in a liberal arts environment
  • Collaborate in the planning and production of a theatre season with the faculty in theatre; interest in developing curriculum appropriate for a liberal arts college.

Required Qualifications: 

  • A terminal degree (MFA, Ph.D.) or equivalent professional experience
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and directing at the college level
  • Demonstrated interest in working across disciplines and engaging in collaborative scholarship, teaching and service
  • Extensive professional musical theatre/theatre experience desirable
  • Excellent communication skills

Commitment to undergraduate teaching and research in the liberal arts tradition is essential. Teaching load is 3-1-3, including a non-traditional January term project which may include directing a production.
