Assistant Professor - Teacher Education

The Department of Teacher Education in the Dewar College of Education and Human Services seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position beginning August 1, 2021.  To carry out our comprehensive mission, we seek applicants with the desire and ability to successfully engage students as they launch and progress through their intellectual journey. The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses face-to-face and online in the candidate’s area of expertise, maintaining scholarly productivity, and participating in service at the department, college, and university levels.

The Department of Teacher Education is comprised of 30 faculty with 26 initial teacher, advanced teacher, and service degree programs.  The department supports students at all levels of their career pathways and is a partner with schools and programs throughout the South Georgia region.

Responsibilities include teaching at the undergraduate and graduate-level in the Department of Teacher Education; coordinating a new online elementary education program; supervising field experiences and clinical practice; fostering relationships with teachers and administrators across the state, and supporting schools within the region; mentoring candidates of diverse cultures and backgrounds; maintaining scholarly productivity; and participating in service at the department, college, and university levels.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• A Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Elementary Education, Teacher Leadership, or a closely related field by appointment date;
• Administrative experience in online education programs;
• Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, as well as scholarship;
• Commitment to diversity and inclusion.

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Face-to-Face and Online teaching experience;
• A record of effective teaching appropriate to the applicant’s career stage;
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting;
• A record of mentoring students of diverse backgrounds.
