Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) seeks an innovative and forward-thinking medical education leader to serve as Senior Associate Dean for Curricular Affairs. This is a unique opportunity for a passionate medical educator to lead in an environment that embraces student success, equity, wellness, and the values of justice and anti-racism. The ISMMS mission is to produce physicians and scientists who are prepared to enter society as informed advocates and activists, able to advance clinical care and science, and capable of promoting change.
Reporting to the Dean for Medical Education, the Senior Associate Dean has primary responsibility for the design, continuing development, and implementation of the undergraduate medical education (UME) curriculum leading to the ISMMS M.D. degree. The incoming Senior Associate Dean will work to transform and further modernize the UME curriculum with the benefit of passionate and engaged faculty, staff, and students. The Senior Associate Dean has authority and responsibility for overseeing all personnel, policies, and activities related to effective management and delivery of a state-of-the-art coherent, coordinated curriculum consistent with the ISMMS mission, vision, and established ISMMS graduation competencies. The Senior Associate Dean will also ensure a curriculum that reflects and supports one of the most diverse student bodies in the country.
Since its inception in 1968, ISMMS has become a world-class leader in medical education, research, service to society, and patient care. It is the medical school for the Mount Sinai Health System, which includes eight hospital campuses, and has more than 5,000 faculty and over 2,000 residents and fellows in the nation’s largest GME consortium. Currently, ISMMS has approximately 600 MD, MD/PhD, and dual degree MD/master's programs.
The successful candidate will have at least five years of experience with direct participation in undergraduate medical education; a strong track record as a superior clinician-educator; demonstrated leadership skills, knowledge of contemporary pedagogical issues involving medical education; experience in curriculum assessment and evaluation with focus on improving measurable student outcomes; a deep understanding of medical school accreditation; the ability to champion education within a preeminent research institution that also serves NYC’s most diverse and marginalized communities; and the experience to work collaboratively and productively with colleagues throughout ISMMS and across the Mount Sinai Health System.
Candidates must possess an M.D. or equivalent degree with decanal experience in medical education from an accredited college or university and be eligible for appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at ISMMS.
