Summary

A successful RN I in Otolaryngology will positively contribute to our patients' experience by providing compassionate care, and functioning as a clinical resource and reliable member of the team. The RN I is responsible for prioritizing care appropriately and maintaining professional patient and faculty relationships at all times. The RN I will also need to demonstrate a high-level of written and verbal communication skills to assist with care coordination and clinical efficiency. Experience in a surgical specialty or desire to work in a dynamic, fast paced academic setting is preferred.

The RN I should be capable of contributing to department/service line growth by providing regular feedback and suggestions for improvement. This position will have an opportunity to create social media content and participate in community outreach and networking to expand referral base. The RN I may also be asked to serve on college-wide committees or work groups.

Candidate must be comfortable working with patients with potentially infectious diseases and with cancer diagnoses. Candidates would also benefit from having previous leadership experience or experience in customer service.

Job Duties
  • Communicate with BSLMC staff to schedule surgery, imaging, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Effectively obtain appropriate pre and post surgical pictures of patients for planning and publication or social media purposes.
  • Respond promptly to patient calls, MyChart messages, and refill requests per BCM policy and to build trust with patients and ensure appropriate follow-up care.
  • Serve as a resource for 1 LVN, 8 MAs, and 4 additional RNs to assist with patient care, across sub-specialties.
  • Contribute on a daily basis to clinical efficiency and maintaining quality standards to comply with protocols set by BCM Quality Nursing.
  • Along with clinical team, contributes to endoscope and instrument high-level disinfection and sterilization as needed.
  • Provide RN triage as needed on 'Live Answer' calls from patients, hospital representatives, or referring physicians requesting inpatient consultation.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • No experience required.
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
