Physical Therapy Director of Clinical Education
The School of Health Sciences at Emory & Henry College is seeking candidates for a Director of Clinical Education (DCE) position at the rank of Clinical Assistant or Clinical Associate Professor (non-tenure-track position) for its CAPTE accredited Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program. This is a full-time, 12-month, clinical (non-tenure-track) appointment with a preferred start date between May 1 and July 1, 2021.
The DCE will be responsible for directing and managing all aspects
of the DPT clinical education program. This position will also have
the following responsibilities: didactic teaching and advising
responsibilities in the DPT program, conducting research activities
consistent with accreditation expectations, and mentoring student
research and/or service-learning and interprofessional
collaboration projects.
THE DEPARTMENT:
The Department of Physical Therapy is housed in the School of Health Sciences, which also includes programs in exercise science, occupational therapy, physician assistant studies, and nursing. The School of Health Sciences is located in Marion, Virginia, which is 20 miles north of the main E&H campus in Emory, VA. The 14-acre Health Sciences campus includes two newly renovated academic buildings that are designed to promote inter-professional education and faculty collaboration across the School's academic programs. The educational facilities include multiple classrooms and clinical skills labs, a technology enhanced cadaver lab, several research labs, an applied physiology lab, and a clinical simulation lab with both high fidelity manikins and standardized patient exam rooms. The Health Sciences campus also includes several community outreach programs including a Falls Prevention Center and the Mel Leaman Free Clinic at Emory & Henry. These entities provide clinical and research opportunities for students and faculty. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as the liaison between the academic program and the clinical education site that facilitates quality learning experiences for students. .
- Secure clinical learning environments that demonstrate sound patient management, ethical and professional behavior, and contemporary physical therapy practice.
- Assign students to clinical education experiences that are appropriate for their learning needs.
- Engage core faculty in discussions about clinical education planning, implementation, and assessment.
- Communicate information about clinical education with core faculty, clinical education sites, clinical education faculty (CCCEs and CIs), and students.
- Complete assessments and documentation for all aspects of the clinical education program.
- Perform academic responsibilities consistent with CAPTE and institutional policy
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Earned doctorate degree (DPT or academic doctorate) from a regionally accredited college or university; preference will be given to individuals with an academic doctorate, American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties certification, experience as a DCE or SCCE, and/or completion of the American Physical Therapy Association's (APTA) Credentialed Clinical Instructor Program;
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in physical therapy clinical practice;
- A minimum of 2 years in clinical education (e.g. DCE, SCCE, CI) or 2 years of experience in teaching, curriculum development and administration in a DPT program;
- Licensed or eligible for PT licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia;
