Upper School Theater Arts Teacher Department: Upper School Location: Washington, DC

Sidwell Friends, a coeducational Quaker day school with campuses in Washington, DC, and Bethesda, MD, seeks a Theater Arts teacher to start in the 2021-2022 school year for its Upper School. Applicants must possess a bachelors degree (an advanced degree is preferred) in Theater, Theater Education, Acting or Musical Theater and teaching experience, preferably at the high school level. Applicants must possess a solid background in teaching theater arts at various levels (from beginning to advanced) through a range of mediums, including improvisation, public speaking, and traditional acting methods. The ability to teach all areas of theater, including acting, directing and stagecraft, is preferred, as are applicants with a background in theater curriculum development, implementation, and management. The ideal candidate will have a desire to work with upper school students in a supportive and intellectually engaging environment. Candidates should possess basic computer literacy for administrative and instructional purposes, and strong interpersonal and written communications skills. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate an ability to inspire and support students and will show a willingness to work collaboratively and independently in an environment committed to academic excellence, equity, justice, service, and students social-emotional wellness. An appreciation for adolescents and a sense of humor are also essential.
This position covers the 2021-2022 academic year. The most desirable candidates will also be able to demonstrate proficiency using digital and online platforms for remote instruction as well as proven effectiveness as a classroom teacher in a brick-and-mortar setting. Teaching positions at Sidwell Friends School are campus based roles; therefore this position requires teaching in person.
