Job Summary

The Department of Integrative Physiology at the University of Colorado Boulder has a Postdoctoral Position working with Dr. Tanya L. Alderete in the Department of Integrative Physiology. The ADOR Lab is applying a multidisciplinary approach to dissecting the contributions of diet, environmental exposures, and the gut microbiome to human health. The Lab’s primary focus is on obesity, type 2 diabetes, and health disparities. Current research is supported by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.

Who We Are

The CU Boulder Department of Integrative Physiology was ranked sixth overall among Physiology units in the U.S. in the most recent (2010) National Research Council report on doctoral programs. The Department of Integrative Physiology is one of the top four departments in extramural funding in the Division of Natural Sciences and has the largest number of undergraduate student majors (~1800) on the CU Boulder campus. The Department has ~25 tenured/tenure-track faculty, 10 full-time instructors, and ~70 graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) students. Faculty research and the undergraduate and graduate curriculums focus on physiological function from molecules and genes to human populations and public health.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Conduct research, develop, and deploy new analytical methods for integrated omics analysis.
  • Collaborate with the other team members on ongoing projects.
  • Assist Dr. Alderete on the project management and coordination.
  • Mentor Ph.D. and MS students for research.
  • Publish research results in journals, present findings at national and international conferences.
  • Contribute to securing funding for the development of new research opportunities.


What You Should Know

  • The initial appointment for this position is for one year, with the expectation of annual renewal for additional years upon the receipt of additional funding and satisfactory performance.
  • The initial start date will be during Spring 2021 or Summer 2021, depending on the applicant's availability.
  • Ability to travel domestically.


What We Can Offer

The annual salary range is $50,000.00 - $60,000, depending on experience.

What We Require

Ph.D. in a field relevant to bioinformatics, obesity, type 2 diabetes, or environmental epidemiology.
  • While applicants are required to have received their Ph.D. before starting the position, their Ph.D. need not be from one of the above fields, as long as they can demonstrate a strong track record of research in relevant areas.


What You Will Need

  • Strong background in statistics and epidemiology through journal and conference publications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.


What We Would Like You To Have

  • Proven experience in data analysis, epidemiology, and microbiome or metabolomics research.
  • Proven understanding and experience with programming languages, preferably R, SAS, and Python.
