STATUS : Part Time
DEPARTMENT : Environmental, Health & Safety Department
DIVISION : Administrative Services

UNION : Non-union
REPORTS TO: Environmental, Health & Safety Manager
PLACEMENT : Professional, Grade H08
MINIMUM PAY RATE : $25.30 per hour

Position Summary

POSITION SUMMARY
The Safety Specialist is under the direct supervision of the Environmental Health and Safety Manager. This person will assist the EH&S Manager with plan development; site safety surveys of multiple campuses; construction site visits; safety training; safety equipment upkeep, inventory, and research; attending various meetings; interaction with faculty, staff, and students; computer work, spreadsheets, and data processing.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Inventory and organize safety equipment including, hazardous materials equipment and personal protective equipment ( PPE ) and air monitoring equipment.
2. Assist in input of purchase order requisitions for department purchases.
3. Prepares bi-weekly purchasing card reports (collects invoices, runs reports, obtains signatures) for EHS employees with purchasing cards.
4. Work with internal and external partners to revise, update, and rewrite emergency response plans.
5. Work closely with College Sector Leaders in training and equipment distribution.
6. Develop safety training curriculum to orientate new students and staff in the emergency response plan and other plans, policies and procedures.
7. Assist in planning and implementing all training sessions for the emergency response team, sector leaders and annual disaster drills. Deliver training sessions and presentations.
8. Keep accurate computer records in the areas of Sector Leaders, IDOL training, NIMS, OSHA .
9. Conduct comprehensive vulnerability assessment of all campuses.
10. Attend monthly EH&S Committee meeting, take notes and distribute summary.
11. Arrange meetings with internal partners, external partners and advisory board members to coordinate safety activities as needed.
12. Willing to attend additional training and certifications, courses, seminars and safety conferences to increase knowledge in required disciplines.
13. Other duties as assigned.
