The University of Florida College of Dentistry is seeking applications for a part-time, non-tenure track, Research Professor in the Department of Orthodontics. The University of Florida College of Dentistry (UFCD) is one of the leading dental schools in the United States devoted to improving and promoting oral health throughout Florida, the nation and worldwide through excellence in teaching, research, patient care and service.

The Research Professor will be responsible for active participation in the pain and substance use projects within the College of Dentistry and in collaboration with other department/colleges faculty and will offer mentorship to graduate, undergraduate students. This position will present research findings at conferences, annual meetings, and seminars; contribute to the continued growth of the Department of Orthodontics’ research program by actively securing extramural funding through grants and other sources; and perform other related duties within the scope of the position, as required.

This position is part-time at a 0.60 FTE.

The University of Florida, a member of the AAU, is the largest and most comprehensive public university in the state of Florida, with large undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate educational programs. The UF Health Science Center and its six colleges (Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health and Health Professions, Veterinary Medicine) are co-located on the Gainesville campus, with additional teaching, research, and patient care sites across Florida, and internationally.

Minimum requirements include a Ph.D. in Neuroscience or related field. The ideal applicant will have substantial expertise in the study of substance use, pain, reward, and substantial knowledge regarding the neurobiology underlying these research themes is expected. Experience with animal models of pain and substance use is required.

Ten years minimum experience in the field of drug use and reward will be preferred. The candidate must be able to work independently to generate and analyze data, to prepare manuscripts for submission, and to prepare grant applications in support of independent research. A track record of having received competitive funding is preferred.
