Job Summary

The individual selected for this position will be responsible for the daily management and oversight of the Sports Surface Field Laboratory of the Department of Crop, Soil, & Environmental Sciences.

Essential Functions

Responsibilities include, but are not limited, to the following:

Maintain experiments and research plots and surrounding areas; renovate and install new turfed areas needed for research; design, operate, repair, and maintain irrigation system; supervise student and TES employees; teach laboratory sections for turfgrass courses as pre-arranged with instructors; maintain records for all management practices including pesticide and fertilizer applications, chemical inventory, MSDS files, weather data, etc.; provide information and assistance to visitors, general public, industry groups, students, and faculty; and perform other duties as assigned.

Education Level

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

Agricultural Business, Management, Business, or related field.

Minimum Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of research design and implementation and accounting principles and practices is necessary.

Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, demonstrated technical excellence, and ability to work independently and In a team environment are essential.

Minimum Technology Skills

Minimum License and Certifications

Pesticide applicator license from the State of Alabama or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hiring.

Desired Qualifications

- The candidate should adhere to high professional standards, have exceptional customer service skills, and demonstrate an appreciation and understanding of scientific methods.
- Four year degree in Turfgrass Science
- Experience in agricultural operations and/or agricultural research related to turfgrass management.
