Job Description

95% Teaching:
  • Coordination and instruction of courses in the Pharm.D. curriculum assigned by the Chair of Pharmacy Practice or the Chair’s designee.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues teaching in the Pharmacy Skills series.
  • Provide assessment support for live performance assessment activities across the Pharmacy Practice curriculum.
  • Coordinate one elective course per year in the PharmD curriculum as needed.
  • May serve as short-term back-up for other laboratory courses (some travel may be necessary).
  • Specific course assignments and locations are at the discretion of the Department of Pharmacy Practice Chair, although the instructor may be consulted about preferences.

    5%: Service:
  • Support the Profession, University, School of Pharmacy, and Department through involvement on various committees and organizations.
  • Serve as advisor for PharmD students as assigned by the Dean’s Office
  • Serve as an adviser for pharmacy student organization(s) within the School.
  • Serve the community as a valued health care professional and citizen by providing community education and professional lectures, which may be assigned by Chair or the Chair’s designee.

Required Qualifications

  1. A terminal degree in Pharmacy (Doctor of Pharmacy from an ACPE accredited school or for pre-2000 graduates, a BS in Pharmacy degree is considered terminal).
  2. Demonstrated ability to teach professional students or colleagues as evidenced by a record of presentations or teaching experience.
  3. An Immunization certificate, currently or obtained within 90 days after starting the position.
  4. Applicants must be licensed as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of Kansas or must obtain licensure through the Kansas State Board of Pharmacy within 90 days of start date.
  5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills as demonstrated by application materials and interview process.

Position Overview

The University of Kansas, School of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy Practice, is seeking candidates for a 9 month per year (Academic Year) Pharmacy Skills Lab instructor (Pharmacist Instructor) position housed on the Lawrence, Kansas campus (unclassified academic staff position). The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching in skills-related coursework in the didactic curriculum.

Job responsibilities will include teaching in Pharmacy Practice Skills Lab settings including but not limited to: developing and facilitating educational experiences including simulations; performance assessment and providing feedback to Pharmacy students; maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies; advising students; and service to the department and school.

The Department of Pharmacy Practice expects its instructors to contribute to the mission and goals of the Department and School in the areas of teaching and service. Salary will be commensurate with the qualifications and expertise of the individual. On site lab instruction is required to be performed in person and on campus.
