Position Function:

Candidates are sought to develop and implement a nationally recognized Extension and teaching program in agricultural policy and/or finance. The successful candidate’s primary Extension mission will be to provide agricultural producers, professional farm managers, agribusiness professionals, and policymakers with research-based information. The successful candidate will develop educational and applied research programs related to agricultural policy or agricultural finance. Priority areas include: commodity programs, conservation policy, farm management, or agricultural finance issues of interest to farmers and lenders. S/he will be expected to engage with subject matter specialists from related disciplines to develop an effective applied research and Extension program appropriately. The successful candidate will also develop an effective classroom teaching program for a course in the department. This position includes a 12.5% teaching appointment, which is consistent with teaching one course per year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be expected to seek and secure external funding to support her/his Extension programs. Significant scholarly output, including articles in peer-reviewed journals, Extension publications, departmental and college newsletter articles, and popular press publications, are examples of the types of outputs expected. S/he will work with faculty in the Department of Agricultural Economics, especially those working in agricultural marketing, agribusiness, risk management, and farm management. Further, the candidate will be expected to develop an Extension plan of work involving specialist delivered and/or agent-based educational programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in agricultural economics or economics with specific training in agricultural policy, agricultural finance, and related topics is required. The successful candidate will have practical knowledge of U.S. and global agriculture, enabling her/him to work with public and private entities and agricultural producers in Mississippi. Excellent presentation skills, applied economic research skills, interpersonal skills, and verbal and written communication skills are required for the position.
