There is a particular need for qualified adjuncts to teach during the day at central Ohio area high schools as a part of the Columbus State College Credit Plus program and also at our Delaware campus and regional centers located in Dublin, Reynoldsburg and Westerville. Distance learning course sections are only available after successfully teaching face-to-face classes. Applicants seeking a strictly online course schedule need not apply for this position.
Essential Job Functions
In conjunction with the Engineering & Transport Technologies department policies, teaches assigned courses as scheduled and assumes primary responsibility for and exercises oversight of the curriculum in conjunction with the Department’s policies, ensuring both the rigor of programs and the quality of instruction. Considers individual differences of students in order to design and support a range of appropriate learning activities. Participates in the identification of students with academic or other needs and responds by utilizing an appropriate resource. Uses technology in a manner appropriate to the nature and objectives of courses and programs and communicates clearly to students the expectations concerning the use of such technology. Keeps accurate and appropriate records in accordance with departmental policies.
Maintains attendance records, determines and submits grades timely, and in accordance with established policies and procedures of the College, and communicates progress feedback as well as other relevant information to students throughout the semester. Create and maintain accurate syllabi that incorporate departmental, college, cross-college, and instructor requirements. Participates in the selection of appropriate materials to support course curriculum in accordance with the College’s guidelines. Conducts classes
punctually and in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule. Employs and assists in the design and development of appropriate assessment techniques to measure students’ performance in achieving course goals and objectives.
Creates a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active and collaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge, student and faculty interaction, and support for learners. Maintains posted office hours in accordance with departmental and policies of the College. Uses technology to assist in communication with students. Encourages a sense of community among students for learning both inside and outside the classroom.
Advises potential or current students within the discipline about the program, career, or transfer options available to assist with degree completion. Refers students to appropriate student and academic support services available at the College or in the community.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Attend all department meetings and required trainings. Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required.
Usual Physical Requirements
While performing duties of this job, the employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering information into computer. The employee regularly sits, stands and walks for extended periods of time. Employee converses verbally with others in person and by telephone. Employee occasionally reaches with hands or arms, climbs or balances and stoops, kneels, crouches or crawls. Employee occasionally lifts or exerts force of up to 10 pounds.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of: digital course delivery; on-line instruction techniques and methods computers, software, including cloud applications, to include Microsoft Office applications (Work, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); Blackboard
Skill in: strong verbal and written communications; maintaining good public relations; customer service; creative problem-solving; excellent judgement; conflict resolution; general typing; application of job software programs; digital course delivery; providing quality instruction, including active and collaborative teaching techniques, and support to a diverse student body; learning technologies and use of multi-media technology to enhance student learning; instructional presentation; incorporating critical thinking, effective communication, and other general education outcomes in course content.
Ability to: collaborate with the College’s community partners, including K-12 organizations; demonstrate collegiality and collaboration across all college divisions;
demonstrate teaching strategies that focus on student-centered learning; demonstrate a commitment to improving student learning through innovative strategies that aid student success and retention and reflect current educational trends; adapt to multi-campus organizational work environments, as well as changes in discipline; maintain confidential and sensitive information, including FERPA; perform complex tasks and prioritize multiple projects; develop, plan and implement goals; work independently.
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid ASE Master Certification (G1, L1, A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, and A8). At least three (3) years’ of formal full-time industry experience as a general technician. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
