Durham
University is seeking a new Director International, to work with
the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (PVC) Global and Associate PVC Global, to
help lead the development and implementation of the University's
Global Strategy.
A globally outstanding centre of
teaching and research excellence, a collegiate community of
extraordinary people, a unique and historic setting - Durham is a
university like no other. We believe that inspiring our people to
do outstanding things at Durham enables Durham people to do
outstanding things in the world.
A world top 100, research intensive
university, Durham prides itself on providing an education and a
wider student experience that is on a par with the very best
institutions worldwide. Durham is moreover a proudly collegiate
university, with 17 colleges located across Durham City, and more
due to follow between now and 2027. Our residential college
communities make Durham a highly distinctive place to study and
engage in the wider student experience.
The University Strategy sets out a
bold vision over ten years that builds on our reputation for
excellence in education, research and the wider student experience.
More than a quarter of our students come from outside the UK and
there are 150 nationalities represented among our staff and
students. However, we want to do better still, while ensuring that
Durham continues to build on being a globally networked university,
recognised around the world as an outstanding place to study and
work and a significant contributor to international research and
innovation agendas.
The new Director International will
lead the International Office and work in close partnership with
the PVC Global, Associate PVC Global and members of the University
Executive. They will help to deliver the University's Global
Strategy, develop new markets, secure additional international
partnerships and credibly represent the University on any
stage.
The successful candidate will build
on solid foundations and strong international partnerships to
further develop and deliver the International Recruitment Strategy
and Plan. Proactive and supportive working relationships across the
institution, including with Faculty Deans, Academic Departments,
Colleges, the Strategic Planning Office, Advancement and the
Academic Office, will be crucial to the success of this
endeavour.
The role will require the successful
candidate to have significant senior management experience with a
well-developed and supportive management style, ideally developed
in a large and complex organisation. They will have a record of
delivering international growth in a Higher Education setting and
will understand the complexities of international marketing and
student recruitment, recognising the nuance between different
cultures. Established connections internationally in a wide variety
of markets and at the highest level with external bodies such as
The British Council, UUKi, Science and Innovation Network etc.
would be advantageous.
Durham University is committed to
promoting equality and diversity. We welcome applications from a
diverse pool of leaders from all walks of life.
