The Department of Communications in the Gwen Ifill College of Media, Arts, and Humanities at Simmons University invites applications for a full-time, practice-track faculty member to direct our internship program, maintain continued professional engagement, and teach in our interdisciplinary undergraduate degree program in Public Relations/Marketing Communications- This faculty member will be expected to teach courses on the ground and also in the online Complete Degree program in Communications, ideally drawing on years of teaching experience as well as on their knowledge from industry. The position begins Fall 2021.

Simmons seeks candidates who can help turn students' passion into purpose, advance their understanding of contemporary strategic communications, and assist them in building the necessary skills to successfully anticipate and meet ever-changing industry trends.

This faculty member will direct our Internship Program, collaborate with other internship coordinators and the Career Education Center, advise students, and contribute service to the department and university. Standard teaching load for contract faculty at Simmons is seven courses per year. In addition to two internship courses, teaching will include a range of topics across the communications spectrum, such as: introductory and advanced public relations, advertising and branding, marketing communications, content creation and strategy, media writing, international/intercultural communications, crisis communications and social media analytics. All full-time faculty are also expected to contribute to the PLAN general education curriculum.

MA/MS in communication, public relations, journalism, or related field of study is required, MBAs will be considered.

Successful candidates also will have:
  • a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • a proven teaching record that combines theory and practice.
  • experience executing social media campaigns and analyzing social media data.
  • an understanding of industry best practices and trends.
  • experience in intercultural communication.
  • experience in career advising and career education.
  • a track record of successfully creating and teaching online courses.
  • a familiarity with New England and the Boston metropolitan area's potential internship sponsors.


Ideal candidates will have industry experience, networks to leverage in the New England / the Boston area for internship and employment sites, and/or prior experience helping students secure internships.
