The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Arizona State University is seeking an active and engaged scholar who will assist with overseeing and developing our new digital immersion (online) Mandarin-language Masters of Science in Psychology program. This new initiative is focused on translating our existing and successful English-language MS Psychology program into Mandarin in order to offer it to individuals located in China. The recruited scholar will act as the Program Director of this program within the School. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure-track faculty position with an initial appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer starting July 2021.
The anticipated workload will involve teaching three courses per semester (with a reduced teaching load the first year for onboarding) plus administrative responsibilities as Program Director that involve facilitating the coordination of ASU’s Online Mandarin-language MS Psychology program. Specific administrative responsibilities will include translating and redeveloping the curriculum from our English-language MS Psychology program, coordinating with the organizations involved in this program, recruiting faculty for this program, assisting with student issues, outreach and marketing, development of strategic initiatives, and other tasks associated with operating this program.
Candidates must be fluent in Mandarin (reading and writing) as well as English and have a doctoral degree in Psychology or closely related field. Preference will be given to candidates with online teaching experience and a broad experience in teaching variety of Psychology courses.
About the School:
The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences is presently in a
period of expansion and innovation around new initiatives and
programs in Psychology, including resilience, forensic psychology,
and behavioral data science. The School is home to online (digital
immersion) and campus immersion-based undergraduate and
Master’s programs in Psychology and Forensic Psychology and a
doctoral program in Law and Psychology. Since Fall 2017, the School
has added three new tenure-track faculty, one new clinical
assistant professor, and eleven new lecturers in Psychology.

Essential Functions of the Position:
The essential functions of this position include overseeing and
developing our new digital immersion (online) Mandarin-language
Masters of Science in Psychology program.
Act as Program Director for the Mandarin MS Psychology program
development and onboarding at Arizona State University.
- Assist with material preparation and teaching

-Teaching Mandarin-based courses in the MS Psychology program
-Effectively teach, supervise and mentor undergraduate and graduate
students
-Engage in service activities to support the unit, college and
university
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate must:
a) be fluent in Mandarin (reading and writing) and English (reading
and writing)
b) have a doctoral degree in Psychology or a related field by the
time of appointment
c) a record reflecting experience teaching at the postsecondary
level in the field of psychology in the online environment
Desired Qualifications:
a) experience with translating course materials from English to
Mandarin or vice versa
b) knowledge of the Chinese culture and educational system
c) educational background and/or research or clinical experience in
one or more of the following: Clinical Psychology; Cognitive
Psychology; Developmental Psychology; Forensic, Legal and/or
Correctional Psychology; Neuropsychology; Social Psychology; and/or
Statistics and Research Methods
d) demonstrated ability to teach broadly in psychology
e) experience with online learning platforms such as Canvas
f) experience developing new online courses
g) demonstrated familiarity with planning and supervising learning
experiences for undergraduate and/or graduate students
h) providing mentoring to undergraduate and/or graduate
students
i) experience developing, implementing, maintaining, and evaluating
curricula
j) familiarity with training and supervising course/teaching
assistants
k) evidence of teaching excellence
l) evidence of excellent communication skills
m) experience working successfully with a diverse student
population, including Chinese and first generation/non-traditional
students
