This is a full-time (40hrs/week) benefited position dependent upon continued grant funding.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
This is a collaborative agreement with Community Foundation of Monterey County (CFMC). The goal is to work collaboratively with Early Outreach Support Programs to support students preparing for college, increasing uptake of financial aid, and awarding scholarship to qualified students.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The College Readiness Advisor, under the direction of the Director of Early Outreach and Support Programs, works collaboratively with Upward Bound (UB) and Educational Talent Search (ETS) Personnel in the overall implementation of the project, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the project, including developing and implementing academic year program services and activities, administering, and maintaining scholarship records. The College Readiness Advisor also serves as the project's chief liaison to the target schools, and the target area's communities. The College Readiness Advisor develops relationships between UB and ETS Advisors and their students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Use independent judgment and discretion in developing and implementing an Outreach Plan that encompasses making presentations to include class presentations, parent meetings to reach target population,
2. The College Readiness Advisor is expected to continuously assess, revise and/or modify plan and provide solutions in order to achieve program goal.
3. Provide leadership to program participants.
4. Provide and oversee program services to program participants to include academic counseling; college advising; enrichment workshops; motivate students to apply to college.
5. Supervise the documentation of student eligibility for scholarships. Maintain accurate and up-to-date files on each student and on program activities.
6. Must remain current with College and University admission requirements.
7. Handle sensitive and/or confidential documents and information where judgement and discretion are essential.
8. Ensure confidentiality of all program records and other sensitive information.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
1. Performs other duties as assigned.
2. Attend workshops, conference as deemed necessary.
3. Promotes and maintains an atmosphere of excellent internal and external customer service.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and handle potentially sensitive situations. Demonstrated ability and skill in speaking to large groups. Ability and skill to work in a support role with migrant and seasonal agricultural communities, minority, low-income candidates using tact, diplomacy and sensitivity. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals, community agencies, universities and parents. Ability to communicate and work intimately within a culturally diverse setting. Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; ability to use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements. Ability to work independently and to take direction effectively. Ability to prepare oral and written reports and comments that are clear, comprehensive, and concise. Proficiency in the use of basic computer systems, software, and Internet skills.
PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Position will be remote through June, 2021. After that time, the position will be assessed for continuing remotely or working on site at our Ryan Ranch location.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in counseling, psychology, education, guidance, student support services, Adult Education or related fields AND Experience working with migrant, and Spanish-speaking communities. Fluent in Spanish.


Specialized Skills:
Must be willing and able to work evenings and weekends and to travel as deemed necessary to provide services to participants and attend professional development opportunities. Position will require travel between campus offices and off-campus location. Must have own transportation, valid driver’s license, and auto insurance.
Demonstrated experience that clearly provides evidence of the knowledge and skills required to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements identified above are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required. Ability to complete web-based training in Defensive Driving and continue to meet the established driving standards as a condition of employment.


Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the CSUMB Vision Statement and the core values of mutual respect, collaboration and service orientation, multiculturalism and diversity, community service and institutional excellence. Experience working with a diverse and multicultural population and performing community services; demonstrated technical literacy.


Special Conditions of Employment:
The person holding this position is considered a “mandated reporter” under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Compensation and Benefits:
The University Corporation is committed to providing our employees with a comprehensive program that rewards efforts that are appreciated by your colleagues, students, and the customers we serve. The monthly hiring salary/range is $4,854. This is an exempt position and as such is not eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Benefits include medical, dental, vision and life insurance benefits, contributory retirement plan, TSA (403b), 13 paid holidays per year and other benefits.
