About the College/Unit/Department
With a long and prosperous history, Art Education at the University of Georgia is housed in the Lamar Dodd School of Art and is part of the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. The mission of the School is to develop the creative and scholarly potential of its students, to support the faculty in its pursuit of excellence in teaching and research, and to serve the public and appropriate professional constituencies.
The Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia has over 45 full-time faculty members in studio art, design, art education, and art history, administering undergraduate and graduate programs to more than 1,000 majors, minors, and graduate students.

Position Summary
The Lamar Dodd School of Art at The University of Georgia invites applications for the inaugural Winnie Chandler Distinguished Professor of Art, an endowed professorship, at the level of Full Professor in Art Education to begin in August 2021. The holder of this professorship, which comes with annual research funding, will play a critical role in contributing to the vision of the Art Education Area. Responsibilities will include mentoring graduate research; teaching undergraduate and graduate courses; participating in curriculum development; building and maintaining scholarly research; and participation in academic, community, and professional activities at the university, regional, national, and international levels. Applicants at Full Professor rank and Associate Professors at an advanced stage of their careers will be considered.
Additional Requirements
Candidates should have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Art Education or related discipline.
In order to be hired at the full Professor level, candidates should currently hold the rank of Professor or Associate Professor with a scope and quality of work meeting the standards for promotion to Professor at UGA . To be eligible for tenure upon appointment, candidates must be appointed as an associate or full professor, have been tenured at a prior institution, and bring a demonstrably national reputation to the institution. Candidates must be approved for tenure upon appointment before hire.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
The ideal candidate will be a leading scholar in the field with an established publication record in nationally and internationally recognized forums and demonstrated excellence in teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, mentoring graduate student research, and successful infusion of technology into teaching. Competitive applicants will have a history of working collaboratively with colleagues and community and school partners, and diverse student populations. The successful applicant will have a broad knowledge of contemporary issues in art education. Desirable areas of expertise might include one or more, though are not limited to, the following: critical race theory; feminist theory; post-colonial theory; disability studies; culturally and linguistically diverse learners; new media and technology; or museum education.
