Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities

The VCU School of Education is seeking to hire a full-time RTR Lead Special Education Residency Coordinator. Lead residency coordinators are highly-skilled educators who possess in-depth knowledge of and experience with the RTR / NTC (New Teacher Center) coaching model of support. The RTR Lead Special Education Residency Coordinator provides leadership in ensuring that the RTR /New Teacher Center ( NTC ) model of support is implemented with fidelity in school sites; oversees all RTR instructional coaches who are supporting special education Clinical Resident Coach ( CRC )/resident partnerships within the schools, stepping in to assist in particularly difficult situations; develops a trusting and reflective professional partnership with assigned CRC /Resident partnerships; documents site visits, communications, checkpoints/continuum assessments, and instructional coaching sessions with the CRCs and/or Residents as outlined in the RTR Handbook and Gradual Release Calendar; reads and responds to weekly CRC /resident logs; monitors and documents Resident absences from school site; differentiates support for CRCs based on individual needs (veteran vs. new); uses New Teacher Center electronic formative assessment tools with an emphasis on the coaching cycle tools as needed to document Resident and CRC growth; trouble-shoots problems as they arise in the schools, addressing any RTR concerns raised by the Residents, CRCs, or the principal at the site school; communicates regularly with the Program Director on the progress of resident/ CRC partnerships; meets with the host school principals to discuss the RTR Program and solicit their feedback; plans and conducts monthly special education mentor forums; recruits, selects, and matches special education CRCs with residents; collaborates with colleagues on updating key RTR documents and planning and facilitating key RTR events such as Selection/Decision Days, the RTR Launch in August, and resident forums; teaches RTR courses, if needed, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Hiring Standards

-Master’s degree in related field or the equivalent experience
-Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
-Strong organizational skills, including close attention to details
-Demonstrated ability to manage high volumes of work by prioritizing multiple tasks to meet deadlines
-Computer skills, including word processing and other Microsoft Office Suite programs
-At least 3 years of teaching experience at the special education level, preferably in a high-need public school setting
-Experience with the New Teacher Center ( NTC ) mentoring model
-Knowledge of curriculum aligned with CEC standards and focus on various aspects of special education leadership
-Experience working with diverse student populations
-Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU

Preferred Hiring Standards

-Understanding of and experience with RTR or similar residency models
-Experience working in high-needs schools and/or school divisions served by RTR (Richmond Public Schools, Petersburg City Public Schools, Henrico County Public Schools, or Chesterfield County Public Schools)
-Knowledge of curriculum aligned with the Virginia Standards of Learning.
