Scope of Job:
To support the Optometrist with daily office clinical/exam functions and perform other office required functions.


Description of Duties:
• Assists the Optometrist in client examinations as needed.
• Triages the patients and performs the essential patient data as needed to room the patient. Records all results in the electronic medical record.
• Performs all required pre-examination clinical testing as ordered by the Optometrist. Records all results in the electronic record.
• Performs clerical duties for example scheduling follow up appointments, referrals, and other testing as directed by Optometrist.
• Distributes prescribed items and ensures that patients are properly educated.
• Ensures that all daily maintenance and calibration of vision testing equipment is completed and properly recorded daily. Reports and properly documents any changes or fluctuations in equipment.
• Schedules preventive maintenance for all optometry equipment as needed or on the clinical master schedule of preventive maintenance. May schedule other repair or maintenance on optometry equipment as needed. May need to properly prepare and arrange equipment for repair if needed and document all pertinent information.
• Performs general maintenance which includes cleaning and sanitizing office equipment. Prepares examination rooms for patients. Properly cleans and autoclaves instruments as needed and ensures safety measures are met and recorded.
• Performs other duties as assigned.


Supervision Received:
General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Supervision Given:
Direct supervision of assigned staff, as needed.

Required Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Education:
Associate Degree in related area.

Licenses/Certifications:
None.

Required Experience:
One (1) year of experience working in a vision office performing optometric pre-examination testing.


Preferred Experience:
Bilingual (English - Spanish)


Equipment:
Use of standard office equipment. Use of all clinical and optometry equipment.


Working Conditions:
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; some travel and weekend work may be required. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.


Other:
Knowledge of pre-examination equipment testing and retinal photography. Ability to multi-task and room multiple patients. Ability to multi-task and to work within a team.
